Esta semana, el profesor Craig Wealand (www.mansiondelingles.com e www.inglespodcast.com) y yo (Mónica Stocker) hablamos de 14 expresiones de inglés de negocios muy útiles.
Más abajo he puesto una infografía con todas estas expresiones resumidas.
Vamos a ello:
1) To kick off/to get the ball rolling- Empezar algo
- Let’s kick off the meeting. Empecemos la reunión.
- Let’s get the ball rolling working on the new project. Empecemos a trabajar en el nuevo proyecto.
2) To give (someone) a heads up- Avisar o dar un aviso a alguien de algo
- My boss gave me a heads up over the bad results of the polls one week ago, so I wasn’t so disappointed today.
- Mi jefe me dio un aviso sobre los malos resultados de las encuestas hace una semana así que no me decepcioné tanto hoy.
3) A pain point – Un punto débil
- Our pain point is sales, we must increase them by the end of this year or we’ll be in trouble.
- Nuestro punto débil son las ventas, debemos incrementarlas para finales de este año o de lo contrario tendremos problemas.
4) To get up to speed/bring (someone) up to speed- Informar a alguien de algo
- I had to get the rest of the team up to speed about the new boss. Tengo que informar al resto del equipo sobre el nuevo jefe.
- Let’s bring them up to speed about the results of the elections. Informemosles acerca de los resultados de las elecciones.
5) To (give the) green light something/to give the go ahead- Dar permiso para hacer algo
- My boss gave the green light to buy a new laptop for the office.
- Mi jefe me dio permiso para comprar un nuevo portátil para la oficina.
- They haven’t still given me the go ahead for going to Cuba.
- Aún no han autorizado mi viaje a Cuba.
6) To be snowed under- Estar con el agua al cuello (referido siempre al trabajo)
- Ever since I started to work for the new company I have been snowed under. I’m doing the job of three employees.
- Desde que empecé a trabajar para la nueva empresa he estado con el agua al cuello. Estoy haciendo el trabajo de tres empleados.
7) To cut corners- Tomar atajos
- Jim is always cutting corners. He tried to sell his new project to our client without even haven’t checked if it was possible to do it.
- Jim siempre está tomando atajos. Intentó vender su proyecto a nuestro cliente sin siquiera haber comprobado si era posible hacerlo.
8) To go the extra mile- Hacer un esfuerzo adicional
- If you want to succeed in your job you must go the extra mile.
- Si quieres triunfar en tu trabajo debes hacer un esfuerzo adicional.
9) In a nutshell- En resumen
- In a nutshell, Edward is guilty.
- En resumen, Edward es culpable.
10) The bottom line- El balance final
- The bottom line is that we are losing clients.
- El balance final es que estamos perdiendo clientes.
11) The big picture- La visión global
- In order to make the right decision you must take a look at the big picture.
- Para tomar la decisión correcta debes tener la visión global.
12) Back to square one/back to the drawing board- Estar como al principio
- We missed the opportunity to get into that business; we are back to square one.
- Perdimos la oportunidad de meternos en ese negocio; estamos como al principio.
- I’m back to the drawing board because my boss didn’t allow me to spend more money in my project.
- Estoy como al principio porque mi jefe no me autorizar a gastar más en mi proyecto.
13) To think outside the box- Echarle imaginación
- Leslie is very clever, she always thinks outside the box and solves the problems.
- Leslie es muy lista, siempre le echa imaginación y resuelve los problemas.
14) To brainstorm – Intercambiar ideas
- Why don’t we brainstorm possible ways to save money?
- ¿Por qué no intercambiamos posibles ideas sobre cómo ahorrar dinero?
